HIMSSanity is here! This year’s conference boasts 45,000 attendees from 40 countries, 300+ education sessions, 1,300+ vendors, hundreds of special programs, and endless networking events. To help you navigate HIMSS 2018, our very own HIMSS veterans have compiled a list of conference tips.
1. Know Thy Schedule
With over 300 education sessions spanning 23 topics, choosing what to attend can be a daunting task. Download the HIMSS conference app to not only narrow down your search, but also create and track your schedule.
2. Bring essentials with you
From long lines for coffee to cell phone battery drainage, you’re better off bringing essentials with you. Pack several beverages, snacks, chargers, and important documents into a small backpack or shoulder bag.
3. Arrive Early
45,000 health IT professionals take a while to funnel into a keynote session. Begin making your way toward keynote sessions at least 30 minutes in advance to grab a favorable seat.
4. Stay Late
HIMSS features numerous networking events, including receptions, award galas, community events, and more. Booked solid in sessions during the day? Several networking sessions last until 9pm. See all the events in store here.
5. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
Yes, you’re in a cold conference center, but you’re also in the desert! Las Vegas temperatures range from high 40’s to low 70’s in March yet the air remains bone-dry. Be sure to drink lots of water as you walk the far distances between sessions.
6. Be Prepared to Walk… and Stop
Endless walking is to be expected at HIMSS, so wear comfortable shoes. What you may not expect is endless… waiting? Traffic between hotels is rough. Waiting in long bus, Uber or Lyft lines to travel back to your hotel is brutal. Take advantage of this time to catch up on emails and network with colleagues.
